There's no substitute for learning about something

November 18th 2024

There’s no substitute for learning about something — essentially uploading a model of something to your brain — it lets you use that model on-the-go, apply it to situations you find yourself in. No matter how good AI is, it still needs data about the situation at hand, and many times it’s impractical to do so. Having those mental models lets you plan and live your life better.

That being said, doing something because it is useful only goes so far. No matter how put together your life is, there’s no substitute for passion, exciting new projects.

Here’s what I want:

  1. Be on top of personal finance - invest responsibly so that your savings don’t go to waste. Budget, spreadsheet, and learn about personal finance considerations (how to make certain decisions).
  2. Gym
  3. Dating
  4. Personal projects: knowledge graphs, software design, and robotics
  5. Then: new job
